NH-65 death toll hits 354 in nine months, Sangareddy worst hit

National Highway 65 recorded 1,661 accidents and 354 deaths across six Telangana districts between January and September 2025, according to Telangana Police data. Sangareddy reported the most fatalities with 100 deaths from 96 fatal accidents, even though it had only 294 total accidents, making its stretch the most lethal per accident. Rachakonda (now Malkajigiri) recorded the highest accident count at 580 cases with 84 deaths, contributing over a third of all mishaps on the 317-kilometre route.

Rash and negligent driving caused 819 accidents, while over-speeding accounted for 751 cases, together forming the bulk of incidents. Rachakonda led in both categories with 278 over-speeding and 273 rash-driving cases. Other causes included wrong-side driving (65 cases) and drunk driving (25 cases), with only one red-light jumping accident reported. Together, Rachakonda and Sangareddy accounted for 184 of the 354 deaths, more than half the total fatalities.
