OpenAI launches GPT-5.6 Sol on AWS in India at lower prices
OpenAI has made its GPT-5.6 Sol model available on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in India, offering local inference and enterprise controls with up to 80% cost reduction, according to NDTV Profit. Separately, Livemint reports that OpenAI has cut API pricing for the same model by over 20% for three months, citing competition from Anthropic and Chinese AI firms.
The new API rates are $4 (approx Rs 380) per million input tokens and $20 (Rs 1,900) per million output tokens, down from $5 and $30 respectively. OpenAI also launched a teenager-focused version of ChatGPT in India, which activates for users aged 13 to 17 based on age estimation. The company said subscription prices for Pro, Plus and Business tiers remain unchanged.
Indian Opinion Analysis
NDTV Profit focused on the AWS availability and infrastructure benefits, while Livemint led with the price cut and competitive context. The 80% reduction figure from NDTV Profit likely refers to cumulative savings including infrastructure, while Livemint's 20% refers to API price cuts only. A careful reader should note both outlets agree on the new per-token pricing, but the overall cost impact depends on usage volume and enterprise agreements.
