Over Rs 3 crore found in auto driver’s home in Sagar, MP

Police in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, recovered over Rs 3 crore in cash from the home of an auto driver, Saurabh Ahirwar, while searching for a firearm. The team had gone to verify a photograph of a pistol circulating on social media, but during the search they found a locked almirah inside the house, aajtak.in reports.

When the family could not produce the key, the police opened the almirah in the presence of witnesses. Four bags inside were found to contain bundles of currency notes. One bag alone held an estimated Rs 1.33 crore. An electronic currency-counting machine was brought in, and the counting process, which began in the afternoon, continued until midnight. The entire operation was videographed.

The auto driver's family told police that the cash belonged to a relative, Ramesh Ahirwar, a PWD engineer from Bhopal who is said to have left the money at their home about eight or nine months ago. Police are now investigating the source of the cash and checking for any valid bank records. The Income Tax department and revenue agencies may also be brought in.
