Pakistan summons US envoy over Gor’s J&K remark

Pakistan on Wednesday summoned US Chargé d'Affaires Natalie Baker and lodged a formal protest after US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor described Jammu and Kashmir as 'an important part of India' during his first visit to Srinagar. Gor made the comment after meeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, adding that the US would review its 'do not travel' advisory for the region. Pakistan's Foreign Ministry called the remarks 'factually incorrect' and said the territory is an internationally recognised disputed area.

Islamabad stated that Gor's characterisation contradicted what it described as the long-standing US position on the Kashmir dispute and Washington's commitment to UN Charter and Security Council resolutions. The ministry urged the US to ensure its public statements reflect the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. India maintains that the entire region is an integral part of the country and rejects any third-party mediation, citing the Simla Agreement and Lahore Declaration.
