Pitbull mauls couple looking for rented home in Patiala

A pitbull attacked a couple in Patiala’s Ghuman Nagar area on Tuesday evening, leaving them seriously injured. Ankit Sabharwal, a bank manager, and his wife Shifali Sabharwal, a Chandigarh University professor, had gone to view a house with a property dealer when the dog rushed out after they rang the doorbell.

For over 65 seconds, the pitbull bit both victims repeatedly before bystanders drove it away. The couple was taken to a private hospital. DSP Jangjit Randhawa said an FIR will be registered under Section 291 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after Shifali’s medical report is received, and police may launch a special campaign after August 15 to identify dangerous dog breeds.

The attack follows a similar incident in Delhi’s Prem Nagar last November, where a pitbull seriously injured a six-year-old boy. Police arrested the owner in that case.
