Punjab gets 4-day yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms
The weather department has issued a four-day yellow alert for Punjab starting Tuesday, 6 October, as a western disturbance is set to affect the region. Thunderstorms and rainfall are expected in 12 districts, with wind speeds of 40 to 50 km per hour.
The affected districts are Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar and Mohali. The weather activity may bring temperatures down by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, increasing the chill in the air.
Indian Opinion Analysis
The yellow alert covers nearly half of Punjab's districts, signalling a widespread but not extreme weather event. Farmers and commuters in the listed districts should prepare for sudden gusty winds and reduced visibility during storms. The 2 to 3 degree temperature drop is modest but may mark the beginning of the seasonal shift into cooler autumn conditions. The alert remains in place until 9 October, after which the western disturbance is expected to move away.
