Punjab police defuse IED near Amritsar police station

Amritsar Rural Police on Sunday averted a terror plot targeting a police establishment, recovering an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 690 grams along with an electronic detonator, battery, timer and iron box. The seizure was made on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the explosive material was handled as per security protocols and defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad. He added that the police have foiled a design of anti-national elements and averted a potential threat to public safety.

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of law. Investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those behind the plot.
