KL Rahul added just four runs to his overnight 82 before being trapped at short leg. Padikkal's assured innings ended in the 92nd over when he was deceived by Prabath Jayasuriya's loop and stumped. Jayasuriya finished with 4 for 109.

Jurel then steadied the innings, surviving a dropped catch on 29, before falling to a brilliant catch by Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva.
