Shaan reveals he sang first songs for 25-26 newcomers

Shaan told Komal Nahta that he has sung the first film song for 25-26 newcomers, including Riteish Deshmukh, Zayed Khan, Harman Baweja, Dino Morea and Arjun Rampal. He said many of them did not go on to become very popular heroes. Shaan attributed his young voice and availability as reasons he was often chosen.

He also recalled an early lesson while recording 'Tune Mujhe Pehchana Nahin' for the 2000 film Raju Chacha. Lyricist Anand Bakshi had asked him the meaning of a line and approved his answer. But when Shaan sang in a pop style, composer Lalit Pandit stopped him. Pandit said that Ajay Devgn was in the video, not a pop singer, and told him to sing the notes straightforwardly with feeling.

Shaan began his playback career with Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi and Dillagi in 1999. He noted that as a former indipop singer, he had to adapt to the different demands of film playback. The interview covered his unique position as a singer who was never tied to one actor's voice.
