The Story in Brief
The trailer for 'Student of the Year: After Dark', the web-series reboot of Karan Johar's 2012 campus franchise, was released on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. The series, starring Shanaya Kapoor in a double role, follows twin sister Aditi as she investigates the mysterious death of her sister Aayesha at St Teresa's Heritage School by entering the school's deadly 'Student of the Year' competition.
The show moves the franchise from a rom-com to a dark thriller. Directed by Reema Maya, Kapoor described playing the twin sisters as a challenging and rewarding experience. The series is produced by Dharmatic Entertainment and will premiere on JioHotstar on 13 November.
Indian Opinion Analysis
All three outlets cover the 'Student of the Year: After Dark' trailer release as a straight entertainment-news item, focusing on the plot, cast, and premiere date. Times Now and Hindustan Times lead with the trailer release and Shanaya Kapoor's double role, while Indian Express frames the show as the ‘antithesis’ of the original film's candy-floss style. The uniform coverage presents the same core facts, the murder-mystery competition plot, the November 13 JioHotstar premiere, and quotes from Kapoor and director Reema Maya, without any discernible editorial slant. The differences are limited to minor wording variations and the depth of franchise history each outlet provides.
