Shane Watson calls India his second home, praises fans and food
Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson described India as his 'second home' while speaking at Indian Independence Day celebrations in Sydney on August 15. He said he felt more welcomed and supported by Indian cricket fans than in Australia, crediting the IPL for strengthening his bond since 2008.
Watson, who played for Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings, now serves as Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach. He praised India's vegetarian cuisine as far more flavourful than the 'bland' options in Australia, and said he feels privileged to have witnessed the country's rapid development since his first visit as a 19-year-old.
