Shreyas Iyer’s 42-ball ton leads India to 8-wicket win over WI
Captain Shreyas Iyer smashed an unbeaten 102 off 43 balls, his maiden T20I century, as India beat West Indies by eight wickets in the first T20I in Lucknow on Tuesday, 6 October. Chasing 172, India reached the target in 14.4 overs, losing two wickets. Iyer hit 10 fours and six sixes, completing his fifty in 28 balls and the next 50 in just 14 deliveries. Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten on 37 off 27 balls.
Iyer became the third Indian captain to score a T20I century, after Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, and the seventh Indian male cricketer to score centuries in all three international formats. On debut, off-spinner Naman Dhir took 3 for 31. West Indies earlier made 171 all out in 19.1 overs, with Sherfane Rutherford top-scoring on 56 off 34 balls. The five-match series now stands at 1-0. The next T20I is scheduled for 9 October in Ranchi.
