Tripura gang rape: 2 arrested, 4 minors held, Assam: 3 held

Tripura police have arrested two men and apprehended four minors for the alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl in Gomati district. The incident occurred on August 1 when the survivor was walking home alone. The accused allegedly took her to a forest and raped her. The family filed a complaint on August 14. The adult suspects were sent to judicial custody for 14 days, and the minors were sent to a juvenile home. Hindustan Times reports that police are investigating the matter.

In a separate incident in Assam's Chirang district, three men have been arrested for the gang rape of a 16-year-old tribal girl. The crime occurred on July 24, and the accused also filmed the act to blackmail the victim. The matter came to light after one accused shared the video on social media, leading the mother to file a complaint on August 15. One accused, aged 20, was shot in the legs by police when he attacked officers during an investigation at the crime scene.

The Assam police have invoked sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the POCSO Act, and the IT Act. The prime accused contacted the victim via social media. All three accused are in custody and undergoing questioning. Police have seized their mobile phones. The survivor's statement has been recorded and medical examinations conducted.
