Batwara 1947 earns Rs 37 crore in opening weekend

Sunny Deol's 'Batwara 1947' collected a worldwide gross of approximately Rs 37.11 crore in its first three days, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. The film earned an estimated Rs 7.25 crore in India on Sunday, a 46% drop from Saturday's Rs 13.50 crore. Hindustan Times and NDTV report the film's India net collection at Rs 26.50 crore, while TrackTollywood puts it at around Rs 25 crore.

The period drama, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, opened on August 14. Despite a 135% jump on Saturday boosted by the Independence Day holiday, Sunday's sharp fall dampened its opening weekend. Overseas, the film collected Rs 5.50 crore over three days.

In the same weekend, Emraan Hashmi's 'Awarapan 2' collected a tracked gross of Rs 90 crore in India, as per TrackTollywood, far outstripping 'Batwara 1947'. The romantic thriller sequel is expected to cross the Rs 100 crore nett mark in its first week. 'Batwara 1947' now faces an uncertain theatrical run.
