Tamil Nadu drops Parandur airport site citing land and wetland concerns

Urban land use, including for railways, has grown significantly, encroaching on farmlands, forests, and grasslands, leading to the loss of many wetlands through drainage, dredging, filling, and pollution.

Separately, women MLAs in Tamil Nadu have demanded the removal of the term 'Kanni Pechu' (Tamil for 'maiden speech') from Assembly proceedings, though one letter writer argued the objection should be to the term's inaccurate AI translation rather than to any patriarchal intent.
