Telangana to fill 4,538 RTC posts, minister says before union polls
Hyderabad: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced the Telangana government will complete recruitment for 4,538 posts in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) to ease the workload on existing employees. The statement came during a video conference with Congress leaders ahead of TGSRTC union elections.
Prabhakar said RTC employees now receive salaries on the first of every month. The government cleared pending 2017 Pay Revision Commission and Dearness Allowance dues after coming to power, he added. Provident Fund dues have been reduced from Rs 1,205 crore to Rs 600 crore, and Cooperative Credit Society dues from Rs 690 crore to Rs 300 crore, with Rs 75 crore paid monthly.
The minister also said 1,134 long-pending compassionate appointments have been taken up, and about 250 employees removed by the previous government have been reinstated. He urged Congress leaders to coordinate with depot officials during the union election process.
Indian Opinion Analysis
The minister's announcement, made just before TGSRTC union elections, ties recruitment progress directly to political messaging. Employees now benefit from timely salaries and reduced PF and CCS dues, with the state paying Rs 75 crore monthly. Yet the key test is whether the 4,538 new hires will be onboarded fast enough to meaningfully ease current staff workloads. The union election outcome will show if workers credit the government for these improvements.
