Two POCSO undertrials escape from Srinagar jail, later arrested
Two inmates arrested under the POCSO Act escaped from Srinagar Central Jail on August 23. Police launched a manhunt and issued a lookout notice with photographs, urging the public to contact the nearest police station or dial 112.
The escaped inmates were identified as Farman Khan, a resident of Sadanpora, Rajasthan, and Mukhtar Ahmed Gujar, a resident of Sanglan Chittergul in Anantnag district. Greater Kashmir reports both were arrested after three days on August 26. The accused face charges under the BNS and POCSO Act.
India TV reports the escape and the search, while Greater Kashmir confirms the arrests and adds that an investigation into the circumstances of the escape is underway.
Indian Opinion Analysis
India TV reported the escape and search, omitting the eventual arrest. Greater Kashmir led with the arrest, adding case details and the ongoing escape probe. The gap between the reports means India TV's story, published first, is incomplete. The arrest is now the primary fact, and the investigation into how the inmates walked out of a central jail is the open question. The jail administration will face scrutiny when that probe concludes.
