Vignesh and Saranya win Asian junior blitz chess titles

Vignesh Vemula and Saranya Narahari won the Asian junior blitz chess championship in Mumbai on Monday, leading a dominant Indian performance that secured five of the six medals. According to Sportstar, the tournament was held at the ITC Maratha Sheraton. Vignesh, seeded 23rd, finished tied on six points with compatriots Viresh Sharnarthi and V.S. Nandish but won the open title on tie-break, as per Telangana Today.

In the girls' section, Saranya, seeded ninth, scored 6.5 points to take gold. Lala Shohradova of Turkmenistan won silver, and India's Sannidhi Bhat took bronze. India swept the open podium, with Viresh taking silver and Nandish bronze. Akshay Borgaonkar and Madhvendra Sharma finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Telangana Today noted that top seed IM Mayank Chakraborty finished 13th. The championship was inaugurated by former BMC commissioner Jayraj Pathak.
