Warner slams Smith for review before umpire’s signal in Bangladesh Test

David Warner has criticised Steve Smith for seeking a review before umpire Kumar Dharmasena raised his finger during the first Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka. The incident occurred in the 14th over when Smith signalled for a review after a sound was heard as the ball passed his bat. Warner, speaking on air, said: "You can't do that."

Former Australia spinner Kerry O'Keeffe called it "a unique moment in Test cricket." The review later proved Smith correct, as replays showed the noise came from his bat hitting the ground, not an edge. Earlier in the innings, Smith had been involved in another unusual moment when he started walking after a caught-behind appeal that Dharmasena did not uphold. Bangladesh reviewed, but technology showed no edge.

Smith was eventually dismissed for 44 off 88 balls. Australia finished the day trailing Bangladesh by 67 runs with four wickets remaining. The teams are playing a two-match series.
