Toxic English trailer draws 18+ age restriction on YouTube ahead of release

Yash and Kiara Advani’s upcoming film Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups has drawn attention after its English trailer received an 18+ age restriction on YouTube. The warning appears only on the English version, the Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam trailers carry no such restriction. Cinema Express reports the film has also received an A certificate from India’s Central Board of Film Certification, restricting theatrical viewing to adult audiences.

Separately, the film has been classified 18+ in Britain by the British Board of Film Classification for strong violence, sexual content and bloody imagery. Cinema Express notes the classification lists the runtime as 191 minutes and 41 seconds, and that the BBFC has categorised it as a Tamil-language film despite it being shot in Kannada and English.

Hindustan Times, however, frames the English trailer’s release differently, quoting fans who call it “a solid answer to all the trolls” who criticised the Hindi version. The outlet reports the English version was shot in English, not dubbed, and that viewers praised it as “looking like an authentic Hollywood film.” Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Yash in a double role alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi and others. It releases worldwide in six languages on August 26.
