Zoya Akhtar confirms Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2 is in the works

Director Zoya Akhtar has confirmed that a sequel to the 2011 hit Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is being developed, with writer-producer Reema Kagti also on board. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Akhtar said, "We are on it," but cautioned that the project will only move forward if the right story emerges for the characters played by Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, and Abhay Deol. "We don't know what will happen and what won't… if we will get to a place where it feels correct, in catching up with these characters today," she added.

Buzz around a reunion grew earlier in 2025 when the three actors appeared together in an advertisement that evoked their ZNMD characters, sparking fan speculation. Akhtar also addressed longstanding criticism that her films focus on wealthy, privileged characters, saying filmmakers should be free to explore stories about any section of society, as financial comfort does not erase emotional conflict.

The original film, released on July 15, 2011, followed three childhood friends on a road trip through Spain and has since attained cult status. No release date or production timeline has been announced.
