5 Maharashtra Medical Council members nominated, 1 post vacant

The Maharashtra government has nominated five members to the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), with one ex officio post yet to be filled. The nominations were notified on Saturday. The appointed members are Dr Ajay Keni, Dr Rahul Kulkarni, Dr Prashant Chaudhary, Dr Rajiv Yerawadekar and Dr Chandrashekhar Gillurkar.

Dr Santosh Kadam, one of nine members elected to the MMC in April, said the council can only be formed once all posts are filled. Until then, the council will continue to function as it has since its elected body's term expired in August 2022, when state-appointed administrators took over.

Once formed, the elected members are expected to oppose the registration of homeopaths with the MMC. Dr Kadam declined to comment on the matter.
