AISA president Neha Bora demands more space for student politics in Bengaluru

All India Students Association (AISA) president Neha Bora has called for greater democratic space on campuses in Bengaluru, saying student politics needs more room to function. In an interview, she flagged concerns over Karnataka's education policies and the pending implementation of the Rohith Act, which seeks to prevent atrocities against Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students.

Bora said that student movements are being stifled and that universities must allow political activities without fear of retaliation. She stressed that the Rohith Act, named after Dalit student Rohith Vemula who died by suicide in 2016 after alleged caste-based harassment at Hyderabad Central University, remains unimplemented in Karnataka despite assurances.

The AISA president also criticised the state government's approach to higher education funding and urged authorities to ensure safe spaces for political expression on campus. Her remarks come ahead of the upcoming academic year, when student unions are expected to push for implementation of the Act.
