Akhil Gogoi gives Assam govt 48-hour deadline over flood aid

Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi has given the Assam government a 48-hour deadline to disburse interim financial assistance to flood-affected families, warning that he will lead a march to Guwahati if the demand is not met. Addressing a rally in Sivasagar on Tuesday, Gogoi alleged that thousands of flood victims have not received the emergency relief promised weeks ago.

Gogoi said the government had announced compensation of Rs 1.2 lakh for families in Sivasagar town, Rs 1.7 lakh for rural households, and up to Rs 3.85 lakh for fully damaged houses, but called these amounts inadequate given the scale of losses. He demanded a minimum of Rs 10 lakh per family and compensation for business owners. He also called for a CBI probe into alleged illegal mining that he said worsened the floods.

Gogoi warned that the agitation would intensify and include a gherao of the Chief Minister's Office if the government does not comply. The demand comes amid growing concerns in flood-hit areas over delays in aid and loss assessment.
