Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has helped build 100 houses for flood victims in Punjab, actor Gurpreet Ghuggi has revealed. Ghuggi, who has worked with Kumar in films such as Singh Is Kinng and Cuttputtli, told hindustantimes.com that Kumar contacted him last year offering to help after devastating floods hit the state in 2025.
Ghuggi said food supplies were in excess at the time, so he suggested that the real need was rebuilding homes that had been destroyed. Kumar then committed to building 100 houses, of which 80 are now complete. The homes are mostly in villages in Gurdaspur and Amritsar districts. Work on the remaining houses will be finished soon.
The project was carried out through Kumar's Hari Om Foundation, set up in memory of his late father. Ghuggi said Kumar did not want publicity for the effort, saying there was nothing great about helping others. "Akshay paaji may be Haiwaan on screen, but in real life he's a true insaan," Ghuggi added.
