Army Chief Dhiraj Seth in Nepal for honorary rank ceremony

Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth arrived in Kathmandu on August 16, 2026, for a three-day official visit to Nepal. The visit, at the invitation of Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Sigdel, aims to strengthen defence cooperation and military-to-military ties, The Hindu reports.

During his stay, Nepal President Ram Chandra Paudel will confer on General Seth the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army, continuing a longstanding tradition between the two armies. The programme includes a Guard of Honour, talks with senior military leaders, and a briefing on mutual interests, indiatvnews.com adds.

General Seth will also address student officers, meet senior Nepalese dignitaries, and attend an ex-servicemen rally in Pokhara. India and Nepal share close ties often described as 'Roti Beti Ka Rishta', and the visit is expected to reinforce their historical and military bonds.
