Army Major killed in Jaisalmer SUV-camel crash, two Lieutenants injured

Major Hamza Arif was killed and two Lieutenants seriously injured when their SUV hit a camel and overturned near the Thaiyat Army area in Jaisalmer district around 12:30 a.m. on Friday. The vehicle rolled four to five times and skidded nearly 100 metres, police said. The camel also died in the collision.

Major Arif, a Madhya Pradesh native who got married a month ago, was returning to the army station after duty with Lieutenants Ayushman and Abhinav Rathore. All three were rushed to the Army Hospital in Thaiyat, where Major Arif was declared dead. The two lieutenants remain under treatment with serious injuries.

Local police and Military Police have launched a joint investigation into the accident, including how the camel came onto the road. Lieutenant Colonel Nikhil Dhawan, PRO Defence, Rajasthan, said details are awaited and will be shared once available.
