ASI arrested after firing kills one in MP Rajgarh land dispute

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) has been arrested for allegedly opening fire during a land dispute in Iklara village, Rajgarh district, on Sunday, killing one person and injuring three others, Freepressjournal.in reports. The deceased, Deepak Mohbe, died during treatment in Shujalpur. The injured are three brothers: Satish Jatav, Mukesh Jatav, and Santosh Jatav. Satish and Mukesh are in the ICU, while Santosh has been discharged.

According to the report, Deepak had been negotiating to buy a plot from a widow, Gulabbai Sharma. He alleged that the accused, ASI Dilip Kumbhkar, had purchased adjoining land and encroached on Gulabbai's plot. A complaint about the encroachment was filed at the Iklara police outpost. Santosh said Deepak had gone to Talen police station on August 13 to inquire, where Kumbhkar allegedly threatened to shoot him.

On Sunday, when Deepak reached the disputed plot, an argument broke out between him and the ASI. The three brothers tried to intervene, and Kumbhkar allegedly opened fire, injuring all four. Police have arrested Kumbhkar, who has been posted in Shajapur district since 2021. A case of murder and attempt to murder has been registered, and the weapon has been seized, said Talen police station in-charge Dharmveer Palaia.
