Bihar 67.25% turnout topped US, UK, France after roll revision: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday said Bihar’s 67.25% voter turnout in the 2025 assembly polls was higher than that recorded in the US, the UK, France, Spain and Japan. Speaking at Patna airport, Kumar credited a three-month Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls that removed around 70 lakh names, leading to a sharp rise in voting. The turnout was the highest in the state since Independence, the Election Commission said.

Kumar is on a two-day visit to Bihar and will interact with booth-level officers at Nalanda University in Rajgir on Monday. He will also launch Electoral Literacy Club 2.0 and the ECINET platform in Patna, the Deccan Chronicle and the Times of India reported. The CEC will visit Sitamarhi, Madhubani and Vaishali to meet district election officials and tour historic sites linked to Bihar’s democratic heritage.
