Bombay HC upholds B.Tech admission cancellation over tampered CET scorecards

The Bombay High Court has refused to restore the provisional B.Tech admission of Shubham Mangire after the State CET Cell found his MAH-MHT-CET 2026 scorecards had been tampered with. A bench of Justices Riyaz Chagla and Farhan Dubash dismissed his petition on August 14, saying the court's extraordinary jurisdiction cannot protect an advantage obtained through an inauthentic document.

Mangire had claimed overall percentiles of 78.874707 and 73.5482364 in two attempts, earning him a provisional seat on June 23. The CET Cell's investigation, however, showed his actual percentiles were 7.8474707 and 13.5482364. The court noted subject-wise scores also did not match official data, and one particular percentile had never been awarded to any candidate.

The court declined to investigate who fabricated the documents, leaving that to competent authorities. It called the case deeply disturbing and warned that no admission justifies manipulation of examination records. The university's decision to cancel Mangire's provisional admission has been upheld.
