BRS to stage protests over Kalyana Lakshmi scheme in Telangana

BRS working president KT Rama Rao has accused the Congress government in Telangana of conspiring to scrap the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes under the pretext of a High Court verdict. He has called for protests across the state on Monday at constituency and mandal headquarters, urging party leaders and cadres to expose what he called the Congress party's deceit.

Rama Rao said the schemes, launched by BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao in 2014, provided Rs 1,00,116 in financial assistance to nearly 13 lakh women, with total disbursement of Rs 13,000 crore. He alleged that beneficiaries were being denied benefits, made to wait for long periods, and forced to visit offices repeatedly, even after their children were born. He demanded immediate processing of pending applications.

Rama Rao questioned why the government failed to file a counter-affidavit despite four extensions from the High Court. He warned that if the schemes were cancelled, women and families would teach the Congress government a lesson. The BRS has asked its cadre to confront Congress leaders in every village and ward and run public campaigns.
