CBI chargesheets husband, mother-in-law in Twisha Sharma suicide case

The CBI has filed a chargesheet against Samarth Singh and his mother Giribala Singh, a retired district judge, for allegedly subjecting model-actress Twisha Sharma to mental cruelty before her death by suicide on May 12. The chargesheet, filed in a Bhopal court on Monday, invokes sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to cruelty, abetment of suicide, and common intention. The CBI also said it is investigating allegations of dowry demand.

According to the CBI, Twisha sent a final WhatsApp message to her sister-in-law at 9.36pm on May 12: 'Ask him to collect left over of his wife. But tomorrow. Let me die in peace right now.' CCTV footage allegedly shows her going to the terrace alone. Her last call was to her mother at 10.05pm, during which she said Samarth had become aggressive. Both post-mortem reports, including a review by AIIMS Delhi, concluded the death was suicidal by hanging.

The chargesheet, running over 650 pages, says forensic psychological assessment indicated 'hopelessness and sustained psychological harm.' The CBI is awaiting complete data extraction from Twisha's phone and CCTV DVR from the accused's home to determine if there was tampering. The accused remain in judicial custody since June 2.
