Centre yet to act on Tezpur University VC inquiry report after 7 months

Tezpur University Teachers' Association (TUTA) has expressed serious concern over the delay in the Ministry of Education deciding on the inquiry report against Vice-Chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh, submitted in May 2026. The high-level committee was constituted on December 31, 2025, following allegations of fiscal irregularities, disrespect to cultural icon Zubeen Garg, and deforestation at the campus. The VC was directed to remain on leave until the inquiry's completion.

The inquiry, expected to conclude in three months, has left the university community in uncertainty. TUTA questioned the statutory basis for releasing Singh's full salary during his extended absence, noting leave limits under applicable statutes. It urged the ministry to immediately disclose the committee's findings and take action to resolve the prolonged uncertainty affecting the institution.
