PM Modi, Yogi greet nation on National Space Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath greeted citizens and scientists on National Space Day on August 23, 2026, commemorating India's Chandrayaan-3 soft landing on the Moon's south pole in 2023. In a post on X, PM Modi said, "Happy National Space Day! Here's to dreaming even bigger, innovating more and pushing newer frontiers." He also shared a video of his interaction with space startups, saying he was "impressed by their energy and ambition." Telangana Today reported CM Yogi describing the day as a "celebration of India's bold flight, from the Moon to the infinite possibilities of space" and linking the progress to the vision of 'Viksit Bharat-Atmanirbhar Bharat'.

The third National Space Day celebrations were held in Ahmedabad, with ISRO Chairman V Narayanan attending. The Times of India reported Narayanan recalling that India's space programme once moved rocket parts on bicycles but has now reached "the number one position in nine areas." He said Chandrayaan-3 provided scientific data shared globally and inspired 140 crore Indians. The 2026 theme is "Towards Viksit Bharat: Innovating, Collaborating and Aspiring to Global Space Leadership."
