Congress protests venue ‘purification’ after Kharge event in Kalaburagi

Congress workers in Karnataka's Kalaburagi protested on Sunday against a purification ritual performed at a venue in Haldwani after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge held a public meeting there, reports siasat.com. The Kalaburagi District Congress Committee organised a march from the party office on Sedam Road to Annapurna Cross, with protesters burning tyres and raising slogans against the BJP, RSS and alleged caste discrimination. They objected to the cleaning of the venue after Kharge's visit, calling it an insult to Dalits.

District Congress Committee president and MLC Jagadev Guttedar, MLA Allamaprabhu Patil and MLC Tippannappa Kamaknur addressed the gathering. They accused communal forces of trying to divide society along caste and religious lines. The leaders said the Congress would continue to oppose discrimination and defend constitutional values, and called on people to reject hatred and work towards social harmony.
