Deepak Chahar named Rajasthan captain for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
The Story in Brief
Deepak Chahar will captain Rajasthan in the 2026-27 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, with Manav Suthar as vice-captain in the 15-member squad announced by the Rajasthan Cricket Association. Rajasthan are in Elite Group A and will play all seven league matches in Mumbai, starting against Uttar Pradesh on November 14.
Rahul Chahar, Deepak's younger brother, is also in the squad. Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed is absent as he recovers from hamstring surgery sustained during his stint with Chennai Super Kings. He was recently traded to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 4.8 crore. The squad also includes Mahipal Lomror, Kartik Sharma and Mukul Choudhary.
Indian Opinion Analysis
Both NDTV and Crictracker report the same squad and schedule with near-identical facts. The coverage is uniform straight reporting, attributing the announcement to the Rajasthan Cricket Association and noting Khaleel Ahmed's absence due to injury. Neither outlet adds editorial framing or commentary. The key point for selectors remains Khaleel Ahmed's fitness ahead of IPL 2026.
