Derek O’Brien slams BJP for passing Bills like cooking Maggi noodles

Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien accused the BJP-led government of rushing legislation through Parliament, calling the process 'like cooking Maggi noodles.' In a social media post, he said the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026 was passed in the Lok Sabha in just four minutes. O'Brien also claimed the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 were each cleared in three minutes, with little or no debate amid opposition protests.

The monsoon session has been largely disrupted for two weeks, with the opposition demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah over alleged police action at a July 20 protest. On Thursday, the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was passed by voice vote, moved by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, as opposition MPs protested over the Ayodhya Ram temple donation theft and other demands.
