Opposition claims forced deferral of 5 bills in monsoon session

Congress on Thursday claimed the monsoon session of Parliament was a grand success for the opposition, saying unity forced the Modi government to defer five legislations. AICC spokesperson Jairam Ramesh listed the bills as 'one nation, one election', the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill on automatic dismissal of jailed CMs and ministers, the Viksit Bharat Shikshan Adhishthan Bill, the FCRA Amendment Bill (sent to a joint parliamentary committee), and the delimitation Bill. The session recorded low productivity, Lok Sabha at 19% and Rajya Sabha at 39%, Times Now reports.

Ramesh said the DMK’s support for the Tamil Nadu assembly resolution against delimitation had smashed BJP’s claims of gaining backing. SP MP Dimple Yadav said the opposition insisted on discussing 'chanda chori' to highlight temple donations being looted under BJP. The government and the NDA blamed the opposition for the deadlock. Congress has called a CWC meeting on August 19 to discuss strategy.
