Padikkal’s 167 powers India to 460/9 in first Test

Devdutt Padikkal hit a masterful 167 to anchor India to 460 for nine on a rain-truncated second day of the first Test in Galle. Sri Lanka's spinners Prabath Jayasuriya (4-109) and debutant Keshara Nuwantha (3-175) shared seven wickets to keep the hosts in the contest after India resumed at 288 for two. Play was delayed by nearly four hours due to rain.

Rishabh Pant fell for 39, caught off Nuwantha after a rushed lofted shot, and KL Rahul added only four to his overnight 77 before falling to the same bowler for 82. Dhruv Jurel struck a brisk 51 after being dropped on 29, adding 55 for the seventh wicket with Manav Suthar (24). Kuldeep Yadav (12) and Prasidh Krishna (1) were unbeaten at stumps.
