Farhan Akhtar says acting was never his plan till Rock On!!

Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has said he never intended to act until the 2008 film Rock On!! came along. In an interview with The Indian Express, Akhtar said he took the role because the script felt right and director Abhishek Kapoor was convinced about his casting. He called the experience a challenge that opened up a new creative avenue for him.

Before Rock On!!, Akhtar was known as the writer-director of Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya, Don: The Chase Begins Again and Don 2. His performance as the lead singer of a rock band marked a career turn. He later appeared in films such as Luck By Chance, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Dil Dhadakne Do and The Sky Is Pink, while continuing to produce through Excel Entertainment.

Asked if he carried anything from Dil Chahta Hai into Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Akhtar said he did not but felt like he was revisiting that world. He described well-written films with a good team as the nicest filmmaking experience one can have.
