FDA suspends licences of 5 MCA food outlets over hygiene failures

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has suspended the food licences of five outlets at the Mumbai Cricket Association premises, including the Permit Room, Pavilion, Mediterranean, Oriental Swing and Clubway & Pastry Counter. Inspections on August 20 found deficiencies in cleanliness, food storage, refrigeration, food handling and sanitation. The FDA said ice accumulation, unclean floors, inadequate temperature control, poor segregation of food and lack of food-grade packaging certificates were among the violations.

The action is part of a larger statewide drive in which the FDA inspected 45 establishments, suspended licences of 11 and issued improvement notices to 33. Among the other outlets that faced action were China Town Fast Food Centre in Mulund, where excessive artificial colour and MSG were found, and Morya Misal in Pune, where expired products were stored. FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe is leading the intensified inspection campaign.
