FDA suspends licences of 5 MCA outlets over hygiene violations

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has suspended the food licences of five outlets at the Mumbai Cricket Association premises after inspections on August 20 found violations of food safety norms. The outlets affected are the Permit Room, Pavilion, Mediterranean, Oriental Swing, and Clubway & Pastry Counter.

The FDA inspected 45 establishments across the state, issued improvement notices to 33, and conducted 25 raids. Deficiencies included ice accumulation in refrigerators, unclean floors, improper food storage, inadequate temperature control, and lack of food-grade packaging certificates. In one outlet, food was being sold under a name without a valid licence.

The statewide drive also suspended licences of six other establishments, including a mid-day meal canteen in Kurla and a Chinese food centre in Mulund found with cockroach infestation and excessive use of artificial colour and MSG. The suspensions mean the outlets cannot operate until violations are rectified and regulatory requirements are met.
