Veteran Bengali filmmaker Raja Sen critical, on ventilator in Kolkata hospital

Veteran Bengali filmmaker Raja Sen, 70, has been admitted to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata in critical condition. He is on ventilation and remains under close medical observation, the Times of India and Hindustan Times report, citing industry sources.

Sen's health complications began years ago after a back injury on the set of his film Maya Mridanga. Earlier this year, he developed lower-body weakness and was diagnosed with a complex neurological condition, leading to major surgery in February. His condition improved briefly after the operation but has deteriorated again in recent days.

Sen is known for National Award-winning films such as Atmiyo Sajan and Laboratory, and the documentary Suchitra Mitra. His family and the Bengali film fraternity are concerned. Doctors at SSKM Hospital continue to monitor his condition closely.
