CJP activist’s father dies in Bankura, eight arrested

Eight people have been arrested in West Bengal's Bankura district after the death of Janab Malik, father of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) activist Abdul Hafiz. Malik was allegedly assaulted by local BJP workers on August 13 when he came to his son's aid during an attack. Hafiz had been inspecting a government school as part of the CJP's 'School Thik Karo' campaign.

The CJP alleges the assault was ordered by local BJP MLA Nirmal Dhara, but West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has denied the attack was politically motivated. Former chief minister Mamata Banerjee spoke to Hafiz and assured TMC support. CJP leaders visited Hafiz, who refused financial compensation and instead demanded a world-class school be built in his father's name.

Hafiz said his phone, containing evidence, was snatched during the attack. The CJP has demanded the arrest of all 10 unidentified persons named in the FIR within 10 days, and an independent judicial investigation into the role of Indus police station staff. The party has called for a protest outside Indas police station.
