High-level panel on Banking for Viksit Bharat soon: FM Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said a high-level committee on 'Banking for Viksit Bharat' will be announced shortly. Speaking at the PSB Confluence 2026, she said the panel will draw on research and recommendations from the two-day discussions among public sector bank and financial institution leaders.

Sitharaman said Indian banks are in a position of strength, with non-performing assets at their lowest-ever levels, creating scope for further reforms. The Deccan Herald reports that the committee is part of a comprehensive review of the sector to align it with India's next phase of growth. Business Today adds that Sitharaman urged banking leaders to shape the future direction of the financial system to achieve the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

The committee's terms of reference and members are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
