Four arrested for Rs 18 lakh gold burglary in Ongole

Prakasam district police arrested four men and recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 18 lakh on Thursday in connection with a daytime burglary in Maddipadu mandal, Ongole.

The accused broke into the locked house of Meesala Venkata Vamsi Krishna on July 23 while the family was in Ongole. They stole 26 sovereigns of gold from an almirah. The suspects were identified as Gopisetti Sunil (48) of Nellore, Tammisetti Venkateswarlu (25) and Tammisetti Anand (19) of Palnadu district, and Malamanti Sai Kumar (33) of NTR district. Sunil and Venkateswarlu had known each other in jail.

Police traced the Innova car and arrested the four at Gundlapalli village. They recovered 157.5 grams of gold jewellery, Rs 51,000 cash, and the vehicle. Ongole DSP R Srinivasa Rao said special teams led by Ongole Rural CI M Seshagiria Rao and Maddipadu SI G Venkata Surya solved the case. Prakasam SP V Harshavardhan Raju commended the teams.
