FSSAI issues notices to JW Marriott, Andaz over hygiene violations

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to five-star hotels JW Marriott and Andaz in Delhi's Aerocity after inspections found cockroach infestations, expired food and other hygiene violations. The regulator said it collected food samples from both properties for laboratory analysis, with further action pending the reports.

At JW Marriott, inspectors found cockroaches, fruit flies, fungal growth on apples, rotten tomatoes and inadequate pest control. Problems were reported across multiple kitchens including Chinese, Indian, Italian and bakery sections. The hotel was also found to be conducting retail and re-labeller activities without the required FSSAI licence endorsement. At Andaz, inspectors found active cockroaches near freezers, houseflies, spider webs, a gutka packet in the bottling area and about 87 kg of expired sweets.

The regulator has directed both hotels to take immediate corrective action and submit compliance reports. Livemint and National Herald both reported the story, with National Herald adding that the hotels did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
