FSSAI issues notices to Delhi’s JW Marriott, Andaz over hygiene lapses

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Wednesday issued notices to two five-star hotels in Delhi's Aerocity, JW Marriott and Andaz Delhi, after inspections uncovered serious hygiene and food safety violations. At JW Marriott, inspectors found cockroaches, fruit flies, fungus on apples, rotten tomatoes, expired food, and improper storage. The hotel also had inadequate pest control, non-operational exhaust systems, and poor sanitation in multiple kitchens.

At Andaz Delhi, inspectors discovered active cockroaches near freezers, houseflies, mosquitoes, spider webs, and a packet of gutka inside the bottling plant area. The regulator found 87 kg of expired sweets, an expired cake base, and duplicate date-marking on bread packets. Both hotels have been directed to take immediate corrective measures and submit compliance reports. Further action will depend on lab test results of collected samples. JW Marriott said it is cooperating with authorities, while Andaz said it has submitted a detailed action taken report.
