Furniture godown fire in Thiruvananthapuram, owner alleges sabotage

A fire broke out at a furniture godown near Plamood junction in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on Sunday morning (August 16, 2026). Employees from a nearby restaurant staff quarters spotted fumes and alerted the Fire and Rescue Services. Four fire engine units were deployed to douse the blaze on the Pattom-Marappalam road.

The godown stored mattresses, cushions, rexine, and other flammable wooden materials, much of which was reduced to ashes. The fire force prevented the flames from spreading to adjacent buildings. Owner Joy told media that he suspected sabotage by business rivals and has filed a complaint with the Chief Minister over prior similar fires.
