New accessway planned linking Radha Nagar subway to Chromepet station

Southern Railway, in coordination with CUMTA, has proposed a new accessway to connect the Radha Nagar subway with Chromepet railway station. The move follows a news report highlighting safety risks faced by residents who lack a direct and secure path to platforms from that side.

The subway lies 120 metres from the platform end with no direct link to the railway platforms. While footpaths exist on both sides of the subway, officials said a pathway along the tracks between suburban and fast lines would pose grave safety risks and is operationally unviable. These concerns were brought before the Madras High Court, which disposed of the matter and directed that representations be considered according to law.

Southern Railway said the new accessway, once completed, will provide safe and convenient entry and exit for passengers from the Radha Nagar side. A timeline for the work has not been announced.
